Abandoned Kittens

This little trio were found in a cardboard box in Hamble Lane, Bursledon in 1997, and this picture appeared in the Daily Echo at the time.

The kittens were new-born, and there was no sign of the mother cat. They were hand reared by us and homed.

Hand rearing is exhausting, especially in the early days. A tiny kitten can only take a correspondingly tiny amount of milk and needs feeding far more often than a human new-born! This means the fostermum can only get very short snatches of sleep at night. But at least changing nappies is not required although it is necessary to assist the kittens as their mother would.
